Three Autumn Inspired Makeup Looks

Take a cue from nature this season with your makeup! Here are three fall inspired looks!

Red and Delicious… Perfect for a date apple picking…

This look is a lot like your classic cat eye and red lip, I just kicked up the shimmer factor with some extra highlighter on my cheekbones, temples, down the bridge of my nose, and on my cupids bow. I also opted for a liquid nudey-pink shimmer eyeshadow only on my eyelid. I swirled coral blush on the apples of my cheeks and up my cheekbones just a touch, and did a light swipe of blush also on my brow bone with my eyes open to warm my brown eyes. I then swooshed a medium brown under my lower lashline (just the outer 2/3s) to add depth. I used a fine, liquid, waterproof liner pen to craft a medium sized cat eye. The key to this look is the high-gloss red lip. I used a red lip stain followed by a red lip gloss. This look complements all skin tones and eye colors; but, when using a red lipstick, consider whitening your teeth first as reds often makes teeth more yellow.

*Great mascara tips- always twist your mascara wand into and out of your mascara to keep from pumping your tube full of air. This will help your mascara last longer as it will keep if from drying out faster. Also when applying your mascara, take your time. Applying mascara is an art not to be rushed. Imagine you’re painting a wall: to get even, thick coverage you would not quickly swish the brush around and call it “good.” Imagine you are painting your eyelashes, slowly wiggle at the base with your wand, and very slowly keep wiggling up to the tips of your lashes. This will evenly coat and also lengthen your lashes. I repeat at least two or three times! If you have long bottom lashes, or your eyes tear often (both for me!) opt for a waterproof mascara for your bottom lashes. Also do not be afraid to layer mascaras if you love one’s lengthening effects, but need a waterproof outer layer. My favorite every day mascara is Arbonne’s It’s a Long Story. My favorite waterproof mascara is Tarte’s Lights, Camera, Splashes.

Sugar and Cinnamon… A look complementing the warm tones of Fall…

This look is shimmery and warm, and will complement every skin tone, but will really pop on fair skin and on red heads! Mix your highlighter into your setting powder for extra dewy skin, and swirl a light layer of a dusty berry blush up your cheekbone. Double highlight the apples of your cheeks for an extra glowing effect. Pack a nude shadow onto your eyelid, and focus all other colors in your crease and on your brow bone. From the crease of your eye, to the outer corner near the end of your brow, in little swirly motions, swirl a medium warm brown and your blush to create depth and the illusion of a more open eye. In the outer crease only, swirl and blend in a deeper brown. Blend everything out so there are no lines. Then tap a generous amount of shimmery shadow onto your lid and the inner corners of your eye. Blend blush and warm brown under the eye as well. Then triple coat bottom and lower lashes with mascara. This look is about opening the eye, so I think eyeliner is optional, though I always suggest tight-lining your upper lashline. Pick a cinnamon toned lipstick (one part nude, one part dusty red) and coat-blot-coat. The final touch is a tapping of MORE shimmer onto your cupids bow. One of my personal favorite shimmer-highlighters is Too Faced’s Candlelight Glow in Rosy Glow, it is cruelty free and paraben free.

*GROSS lipstick tip: Avoid roadkill on your lips by choosing a vegan lipstick- we do! Google, if you dare, “Animal rendered fat in lipstick” and see what pops up.

Flush and Wine… Merlot lids and lips and flushed cheeks for cool temps...

This may be the easiest look yet. Because the eyes and lips are deep, I left my skin light. I would suggest a bb cream, and either a touch of blended out foundation or concealer where needed (I always have redness around my nose and circles under my eyes). Find a light pink or purple blush and really swirl it focusing on the apples of your cheeks and just a touch down to the hollows of your cheek. Blend it out well with a big fluffy brush and setting powder so that it looks like a natural cool-weather flush. I also tap a touch of it onto the tip of my nose. Of course I would suggest a touch of highlighter up the cheekbone and down the nose too. Then focus a deep purple-brown on the outer 2/3s of your actual eye lid. In the outer 1/3 your crease buff a lighter purple up and out. Blend that all out well with your setting powder, especially the inner 1/3 of your eyelid and under your brow. Then buff the lighter purple under you bottom lashline to add more dimension to the look. I then tight-lined my upper lashline with a kohl pencil, and loaded on the mascara. I picked a deep merlot colored lipstick and again did coat-blot-coat. One of my favorite hydrating lipsticks is Josie Maran’s Argan Love Your Lips Lipstick.

*Purple tip: That’s a lot of purple, right?! Well, not if you can find a more “grown up” purple. Look for two hues that are not the color of a candy, one darker, one lighter. Purple shadow literally enhances every eye color. Brown eyes get deeper and warmer, hazel eyes turn green, green eyes turn brighter, and blue eyes turn more turquoise. Also purple lips make your smile whiter, as anything with a blue undertone will counter yellowness in teeth.
