Happy-Almost-New Years Eve!

The big questions of the season are how do I cope with Winter-ravished skin? And how should I be doing my makeup for New Years Eve?

Winter months can totally wreak havoc on our skin. The cool weather outside, and heated houses inside can really change the needs of our skin. My suggestions for taking care of the skin on your face during the winter months are easy to follow.

First off make sure you're staying hydrated. Even though you may not be as thirsty as you are in the hot summer months, you still need to drink a lot of water for your body and skin's sake! Second, think about getting a humidifier if your skin is getting really dry. Heaters make the air very dry and this greatly effects our skin, and a humidifier will put some moisture back into the air. Third, remember not to skip your sunscreen in the winter; the sun's harsh rays are still out there and can do just as much damage to your skin in the winter as the summer. Fourth, make sure your face wash is not stripping the good, natural oils from your skin. Your skin needs these oils, and if it feels like it's not producing enough oil (because you're washing it away) your skin will then produce more oil to compensate. This turns into an ugly cycle, as you then wash more or turn to a harsher acid wash, and your skin in return produces more and more oil. Fifth, immediately after you wash your face, put on your moisturizer (consider an extra-moisture-moisturizer for winter). This will lock moisturizer in before your pores have closed up as they cool off after being washed in hot water. However the most important tip I can give you is to make sure that you are using pH balanced products (5.5). It's so important to keep your skin at its natural pH level to promote healthy skin, which in return equals a healthy glow and even skin tone and less dry or oily problems. That's why almost all of our CRA makeup kit products are pH balanced.

If you're having trouble finding pH balanced products, remember to check out Arbonne. Please shoot me an email if you have questions!

I'd love to help you and your skin get winter happy!

As for tips and tricks to achieve a show stopping, jaw dropping, fashion forward NYE look... We at CRA are totally thinking that healthy skin is the basis for a great look!

For our looks we started off lightly exfoliating with a pH balanced wash, and then immediately after washing toned with a witch hazel based, pH balanced, toner (not alcohol based) to close and soothe pores, and then moisturized with a pH balanced moisturizer with broad spectrum sunscreen.

However, we all still have a few alleged "flaws" we chose to conceal or contour away. I'll highlight our key products we used to create our party looks!

Lindsay is blessed with wonderful, even skin. Her look centered around rosy lips, cheeks and a smoky eye.

She swirled chocolates and smokes on the outer third of her evelid, lightly blending to the middle of her eyelid and also lightly toward her eyebrow. She used a berry color for that perfect winter flush on the apples of her cheeks, and then also swirled that onto her eyelid to add even more warmth to her deep brown eyes. To finish her look she used a berry red lipstick, and medium length accent cluster lashes.

What is she smiling about? Our vegan lipstick of course! There's no rendered animal by product in our makeup, and that's something to smile about! Remember whatever's on your skin absorbs into your body! And lipstick is absorbed and eaten off. Too bad we can't just wear sprinkles on our lips all day, every day!

Laura is really making us fall for the bold meets minimal look. It's the perfect balance of both worlds.

For her look she applied our velvety primer (with optilight technology to blur away any imperfections as the lights hits your skin) and buffed on our Setting Pretty finishing powder to get that perfect glowing skin. The Setting Pretty has the perfect amount of light reflecting properties to help you photograph like an angel and get that perfect glow.

She darkened her brows and slightly extended them to really frame her eyes. She kept her eyes minimal, except for a clean cat eye, and long cluster lashes for a little extra ooomph.

For her lips, to balance those fabulous brows, she applied a dark jam lipstick. She kept her cheeks minimal to pop her other features.

Megan is our bohemian, Free People loving, free spirited combo artist. Her look is all about the natural. She used all neutral tones, with a light hand, and kept her holiday look fresh and clean.

Megan started off concealing a few spots. The key is to use a color lighter than your skin tone. She then evened out a little redness with our Mattifying Powder that is tinted green! How weird right? It's actually a color corrector and helps neutralize any redness and absorbs excess oil. It also photographs very mat, which may be just what you're looking for. She used a brushstroke of peach right on her cheekbone all the way to her temple, and did a parallel brushstroke right under her cheekbone with our mat, waterproof bronzer, and swept it all the way to her ear. With a light hand she buffed on a light taupey eyeshadow directly onto her eyelid, and then lightly flicked her liner out at the corner. Her look gives her the perfect amount of coverage, and directs your attention to her alluring blue, smiling eyes. She finished off her look with a swipe of dusty pink lipstick, and combo lashes, one medium and one long, to keep the look natural-ish, but still party ready.
